Today, I’m going to guide you guys through how to perfectly season & sauté shrimp! I've gotten many questions before as to how I get rid of that fish-y smell shrimp has or how to know that it's done cooking. So, I'm going to thoroughly explain how to season your shrimp so that it tastes like it does when you eat it out at restaurants AND how to perfectly cook it, without undercooking it or burning it. So, let’s get to it.
How To Season and Sauté Shrimp
1. The day you want to cook shrimp, take your desired amount out of the frozen bag and put into a bowl. Run them under cold water and let them thaw for 15 minutes max. They’ll be softer now. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
2. In that same bowl we are going to season them: I’m going to give you my seasoning for when I’m in a rush for dinner - this is for 1 pound of shrimp.
1). ½ TSP of adobo
2). ½ TSP onion powder
3). ¼ TSP black pepper
4). ¼ TSP chili powder
5). ½ TSP Cajun seasoning
6). ½ squeezed lemon
Add the seasoning to the shrimp and mix around well.
3. Now, turn the stove on and grab a medium-sized frying pan. Turn the heat to medium-high and add 1 TBSP of olive oil or 1-2 TBSPs of butter/vegan butter (up to you). Add 3 minced garlic cloves for more flavor. Once you can smell the garlic add in your shrimp. It should sizzle on contact.
4. Make sure to flip them so they evenly cook. It shouldn’t take more than 5-8 minutes to sauté. You will know they cooked fully when the tails are bright red.
5. Take them off the pan, add fresh herbs like parsley.
