Zaatar Walnut Naan

Updated: Aug 22

Anyone who follows me knows that my Arab self will never give up bread, and I shouldn’t have to. When I make conscious decisions to pick what kind of bread I eat I am completely guilt free. Choosing breads made of whole grains, oats, barley, bulgur, flax, etc provide me with key nutrients that I need on a regular basis. Breads that should be avoided are processed ones like white bread!

These don’t have the same amount of nutrients as whole grain bread does hence why it’s less desirable to eat. HOWEVER, does this mean I hate myself when I have white bread on occasion? Nope. I love myself and so should you all. When you are consistently making smart eating decisions and have developed nutritious eating habits, having foods you usually wouldn’t have is NOT going to kill you. Okay I am now going to shut up and give you the recipe to this mouthwatering, crunchy, flavorful naan for you all.

Yields: 4

Prep time: 5 minutes

Total time: 15 minutes

This recipe is dairy free, and vegan.

Ingredients:

Stonefire Original or Ancient Grain Naan (Two come in the package but this is the recipe for one. You can repeat for the other piece.)

Zaatar

Extra virgin olive oil

½ cup of walnuts

Maldon salt for garnish

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400.

2. Place the naan on a baking pan.

3. In a separate bowl start with 2 TBSPs of olive oil. Now, add 1 TBSP of zaatar. Mix. You want a thick consistency so add more zaatar if necessary.

4. Spread this mix onto the bread and make sure to evenly coat the bread.

5. Now, sprinkle on 1/2 cup of crushed walnuts.

6. Sprinkle more zaatar onto any empty crevices and make sure to coat the edges.

7. Place into the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

8. Cut into thin pieces.

9. Sprinkle on finely chopped fresh parsley and maldon salt for garnish. Enjoy!
